The Future of Circular Fashion

Producerad av: Fashion for Good och Accenture

Publicerad: 2019

“Fashion for Good, in collaboration with Accenture Strategy, today launch a new report, “The Future of Circular Fashion: Assessing the Viability of Circular Business Models“, that for the first time explores the financial viability of circular business models in the fashion industry. The study looks into three different models – rental, subscription-rental and recommerce, to assess the financial viability of each when adopted in four different market segments – value, mid-market, premium and luxury. With established brands and retailers being slow to adopt circular models, the report presents further incentives for implementation, helping to identify where circular models are attractive today and the critical levers to enhance their viability in future.”

Outline of the Circular Economy

Producerad av: PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency

Publicerad: 2019

“In many countries, governments are looking for ways to change their economy into one that is circular, or to improve the level of resource efficiency (e.g. see the EU programme ‘Closing the loop’ or the World Circular Economy Forum). To do so effectively, having an overview of the current state of circular activities in the economy is important. To date, such an overview has been lacking. This PBL report provides an outline of the current state of the circular economy in the Netherlands.”

Cities and Circular Economy for Food

Producerad av: the Ellen MacArthur Foundation

Publicerad: 2019

“By making great strides in productivity, the industrial food system has managed largely to meet the demands of a growing global population. However, this approach to food production, and the management of food by-products, is endangering biodiversity and human health. It has become clear that this food system is no longer fit for the 21st century and that a new model is required.

Launched at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2019 in Davos, Cities and Circular Economy for Food explores the benefits of the transition to a regenerative food system. With analytical support from SYSTEMIQ, the research outlines a vision underpinned by circular economy principles, where food production improves rather than degrades the environment and where people have access to healthy and nutritious food. Given that 80% of all food will be consumed in cities by 2050, the report highlights their critical importance in triggering the shift towards a regenerative system fit for the long term. Three main ambitions emerge: source food grown regeneratively, and locally where appropriate; make the most of food (use by-products more effectively, prevent waste); design and market healthier food.”

Exponential Climate Action.JPG

Exponential Climate Action

Producerad av: Sitra och Futurearth

Publicerad: 2018

“The Paris Agreement’s goal to reduce the risk of dangerous climate change can be achieved if greenhouse gas emissions peak by 2020, halve by 2030 and then halve again by 2040 and 2050. This is now technologically feasible and economically attractive but the world is not on this path. This roadmap focuses on the immediate priorities, and has three purposes:

To communicate the pace, scale and systemic nature of the necessary economic transformation.

To connect the exponential scaling potentials in the digital revolution to the climate challenge.

To support momentum across policy, markets and technology.”

Circular economy finance guidelines

Författare: Medlemmar i FinanCE: ABN, AMRO och Robabank
Publicerad: 2018

The transition towards a circular economy is expected to generate multiple economic, social and environmental benefits. Financiers play an important role in accelerating this transition by facilitating finance for businesses and projects applying circular economy business models.
In December 2014 the FinanCE working group was founded by PGGM and brought together a group of organizations1 related to the world of finance that were interested in the transition to a more circular economy. The group was supported by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.
For this publication the FinanCE members ABN AMRO, ING and Rabobank sought active support and feedback from all FinanCE Working Group Members. The overarching goal is to create and stimulate a common understanding of circular economy finance.
This common understanding will accelerate financing and investing in circular business models. Especially since the market lacks guidance on how to uniformly define and apply circular economy thinking.
These Circle Economy Finance Guidelines aim to enable, stimulate and develop the key role finance can play in the transition towards a circular economy.

Circular economy - a powerful force for climate mitigation

Författare: Sitra
Publicerad: 2018

This report investigates how a more circular economy can contribute to cutting CO2 emissions. It explores a broad range of opportunities for the four largest materials in terms of emissions (steel, plastics, aluminium, and cement) and two large use segments for these materials (passenger cars and buildings). The key conclusion is that a more circular economy can make deep cuts to emissions from heavy industry: in an ambitious scenario, as much as 296 million tons CO2 per year in the EU by 2050, out of 530 Mt in total – and some 3.6 billion tonnes per year globally. Making better use of the materials that already exist in the economy thus can take EU industry halfway towards net-zero emissions. Moreover, doing so often is economically attractive. Initiatives for a more circular economy therefore deserve a central place in EU climate and industrial policy.

Renewable materials in the circular economy

Författare: IVL
Beställd av: Essity, Tetra Pak, IKEA and Royal DSM
Publicerad: 2018

Cradle to Cradle: Remaking the way we make things

Författare: Michael Braungart och William McDonough
Utgiven: 2002

Boken som startade den cirkulära vågen och gjorde att Cradlenet startade. Läs den!

"Reduce, reuse, recycle" urge everyine to do more with less in order to minimize damage. But as this visionary book argues, this approach perpetuates a one-way, "cradle to grave" manufacturing model that dates to the Industrial Revolution and casts off as much as 90 % of the materials it uses as waste, much of it toxic. Why not challenge the notion that human industry must inevitably damage the natural world? In fact, why not take nature itself as our model? A tree produces thousands of blossoms in order to create another tree, yet we do not consider its aboundance wasteful but safe, beautiful and highly effective; hence, "waste equals food" is the firts priciple the book sets forth. Products might be designed so that, after their useful life, they provide nourishment for something new - either as "biological nutrients" that circular within closed-loop industrial cycle, without being "downcycled" into low-grade uses.
